Artist Statement
My interests in painting have evolved through many technical and stylistic changes and in the process a useful understanding has gradually informed my work. The essence of authentic “painting” I believe, resides in pure inventive abstraction. These pieces demonstrate a consistent interest in a technique that explores and utilizes the fluid application of paint to achieve a dynamic visual result. This type of painting for me epitomizes the meaning of the term “freedom of expression.” In the new work, I am attempting to locate that optimum moment of visual energy that exists in the process somewhere between impulse and resolution.
